Trip To Chile | 10 Day 1000 Word Challenge

by on Oct.21, 2010, under Uncategorized

Jane 1When I was five years old, I went to visit my mom’s family in Chile. We went with my family and grand-parents because it was a long time when they saw there’re family. So it was a nice two week vacation.

We visited the city of Santiago, Viña del Mar, Cisco, and Valparaiso. We stayed in a hotel, at my mom’s aunt for a few days with my mom’s cousins too. There was Ankisa (girl), Davor (boy), Neven (boy), and Axel (boy) with of course Tia Pabla (Tia means aunt). That was in a little town called Villa Macul.

When we were in the city of Cisco, we stay in a house one block away from the beach.  People were selling fresh new bread in the streets, they called out ‘‘Pan Amasado!’’ (Home-made Bread!) It was delicious! (We bought some)

My grandpa’s family organized a nice outside barbeque to meet us, because the last time they saw my mom, she was only 5 years old. Everybody spoke Spanish, and very fast so I didn’t understand them. But when I was with my mom’s cousins, they spoke slowly to me and I understood.

I almost forgot to tell you that when I Jane 2was in the plane, we could see beautiful mountains called: “La Cordillera de Los Andes”.

I visited the downtown in Santiago, there were a lot of people and it’s a busy town.

Even when if I was five, I look at the pictures (memories) and it came back to me. I hope to go back soon! And by the way, I lost a tooth over there! I got money from the ‘tooth fairy’ and also my grandmother so she can give it to me.

P.S. Almost forgot, they have the same McDonalds as us in Canada but they sold Cheese Empanadas….My favourite!!!

The Greatest and Long Phys. Ed. Essay

by on Oct.20, 2010, under Uncategorized

Hello, I will talk about sports I play and also some of my memories I had.Soccer ball Source Wikimedia Commons

Sports I Play

The sports I play at school are Cross-Country, Soccer, football, handball and many, many more. At home or anywhere else, I play soccer, football, cross-counrty, tennis, golf, hockey only sometimes, and wakeboarding. (wakeboarding is that you get pulled from a boat of course on water, with a long rope with a handle at the end that you hold on and then you do tricks. It’s pretty hard when you get up if you just started.) The one I’m best at is soccer and wakeboarding. I’m best at soccer because I’ve been playing from the youngest age we can start, (age of 5 years old) and I also started playing soccer for fun at the age of 4 and turning 5. Also, we won every single game exept two. One was because it was a tie and second was because we lost from one point V.S Amelie. I met Amelie at the age of 3 when we were at the same ballerina class. And I am still friends with her now. Then, I met Sam in kindergarten and we played soccer too but not in the same team. Those two people were my best friends but no worries they still are. We are all in the same class.Every time we are against each other at soccer we say: “Good Luck” or “Hi!!!”

How I Started Playing Sports

The person who taught me are my parents but mostly my dad. He started playing hockey which he was an expert but now he got too much operations that it hurts when he plays rough. He usually talked about it all the time.(He also met the Canadiens of Montreal and practised with them. He was also a mini coach but I don’t think he was on t.v) Then he suggested me to play soccer and I said yes! He would give me tricks to dodge people, giving good passes and to score well. My parents were also my coaches so it was fun to play and my own parents would teach my whole team for good tricks.

Career in Sports

When I grow up, I want to be a soccer player because I have good expieriences what’s it like and even though you can get hurt really, really bad and break something, I’d take a chance and if I can’t play anymore, I would know what it is like to be a great soccfer player.

Great Memories

My great memories are when I scored about 4 goals in 1 game which I was so happy for me but it’s also because of my team too though. My second about soccer is that I would always be happy because I just feel energized because my grandfather was always there smiling at me and cheering for me. ( He used to play soccer alot!) I was always saying, “Is he coming? Will he be there?” My last one is when I finished 1st in the Cross-Counrty run. It was my first time ever for finishing first. It was Amazing! I was glad when my phys ed. teacher told me “Good Job!, your first!” When I finished.

Privilege or Right?

I think it’s a privilege because you can choose if you want to play sports or not because they can’t just say, “You have to do sports! No desisions!” Also because if you not good in sports, it’s not nessesary to play it.

Go Green Campaign – Screensaver | 10 Day 1000 Word Challenge

by on Oct.19, 2010, under Uncategorized

Jane, Award Winning Screen SaverAt school we had to draw a drawing of the environment. It was for the the Screen Savers on the computers. I chose an idea of drawing a planet in the middle of my paper with multi-colored stick-men people around the planet to say that they are taking care of their planet. Around the stick-men people, I wrote: ”Take Care Of Our Planet!” with a peace sign beside. Then, I didn’t want to leave the background blank, so  added some colors that were from my stick-men people. My style of coloring any backgrounds is to color only almost of the blank parts. Like what I did up here. I cover the backgrounds usually  in a wiggly type.

My first draft was not like my good copy at all. It didn’t even have a planet. My draft  was going to be recycling symbol which of course I said, ”Recycle!”. Then, I put blue and green spots everywhere. I didn’t really thought it was so amazing. So I did the best one ever! (the good copy) I wanted to draw this picture like that because the week before, I made myself new cartoon faces with different moods. Then, I thought for my drawing to make planet Earth with a little face on it. Next, I drew little stick-men people because I always see like something of the environment and little stick-men around it. So I decided to do planet Earth  and drew stick-men people and the rest, I had it all in mind. (It just came up up in my head)

When it was time for the voting, (in my class) there were five choices. I was really hoping to win because I put alot of effort in it. And guess what? I won! I’m pretty sure other classes were doing that too. Anyways , now that I’ve won, my drawing (and others) will be the on the computer lab for the screensavers!

High School Is Coming! | 10 Day 1000 Word Challenge

by on Oct.19, 2010, under Uncategorized

Hi, I’m Jane and I’m in sixth grade, what that means is…next year is high school! My choices that I can go are: Sports Excellence, International, Arts, I-Can or regular. At first, I wanted to do Sports Excellence. My mom wasn’t really sure about me going there. She suggested me to go on International because I am also allowed to participate in sports. So I said yes. So I’m trying out for International! Work might be hard in high school, but I’ll do my best!

International Baccalaureate

I think the difference of elementary school and high school is first of all the math will get more complicated, science would be more about experiments, teachers get more stricked, (sometimes not) we get more homework, the school (high school) is bigger, there’s more people, and I might also get new friends. People in my class are also trying for International, so I might stay with my own friends. I also remember that we have less time for recess time. So I’ll be running in the school to be on time in my classroom!

At our elementary school, we have school dances. Which are coming soon! We have the Halloween dance the 29th of October, (and I’m dressing up as a Zombie!) There’s the Valentines Dance, and the Spring dance. I wonder if there are going to have more dances in high school.

I’m excited for my first day, but also very nervous to meet my new teachers! The only thing I can promise myself is to do the best I can every day, study hard and have fun too!

What do you think about high school? (if you are going soon)       Waiting for your comments!

Recipe: Apple Crumble | 10 Day 1000 Word Challenge

by on Oct.16, 2010, under Uncategorized

What I like most about apple crumble is of course the taste of fresh heated apples with good sauce on it that has cinnamon in it, (there’s more stuff in the sauce though) and how the taste is sugary. I save the crust for last because I love the crunchy part of crusts!!! Apple crumble is my favourite dessert.

My mom makes it from scratch. She went on a site, printed the paper and followed the directions. But now if were having a party or people coming over, that’s when we mostly do it.  We also buy it from the store when we don’t have time to make it.

My mother comes from Chile but moved in Canada in 1975 when she was 5 years old. There are good desserts from Chile that my grandmother does,Apple Crumble, WikiMedia Commonsbut with my mom, we like to make recipes from Quebec like the apple crumbles (but we can still make those recipes my grandmother does). Of course there are good, and tasty apples in Chile and my grandmother makes an apple dessert that is called Kuchen de manzana. It is like an apple strudel or a typical dessert from Chile is called Brazo de reina that is a cake with a kind of caramel in it. But my favourite is the apple crumble (or apple pies) Maybe someday I’ll share the recipe of  Brazo de reina from my grandmother, and of course I will have to translate it in English with the help of my mom so you can taste this excellent dessert!!

I like to eat apple crumble at any time of the year (almost all the time) but mostly when it’s a supper. I’m lucky, because each time we have apple crumbles, the rest of my family don’t eat too much and there is more for ME. We can also save some for other days. (continue reading…)

Ghost Train

by on Oct.14, 2010, under Uncategorized

5The story we were talking about is called Ghost Train. The first time I read the title, ( Ghost Train) I was sure it would be really interesting and emotional. Just like “The first 48″. It’s a t.v. show. It’s not exactly like it, but when I compare those two together, I have the same feeling from how it’s interesting.

Describing Pictures:

(page 5) When I first saw the picture on page 5, I’ve never realized that Choon-Yi (little girl) was missing an arm! She really feels happy on this picture, drawing joyful and real life things. They can also be memories. She seems okay about missing an arm, it really looks like she doesn’t really mind about it.

(page 6)  Choon-Yi seems older now in the picture. She also looks sad and worried. I realized she has her painting kit again. Also, the background is really dirty and kind of unhappy. The water could also be polluted. I don’t think this is a pleasant time for Choon-Yi.

(page 7) This picture seems interesting . If someone saw this picture and would never read it, there would be alot of ideas. Before I read the book, I thought she was going back home because on page 5, she was drawing in the village so I thought she was finished going back home, and she was coming back home , and then she saw something interesting so she went to go see what it was. She looks interested by the red train just passing by. (continue reading…)

If I Were An Animal …..

by on Oct.09, 2010, under Uncategorized

If I could be an animal, I would most like to be…

If I could be an animal, I’d really want to be a lizard. The type of lizard would be a chameleon. I like all sorts though too. I want to be a chameleon because I love the eyes, how it moves, the type of skin, and mostly how it can camouflage itself.

I like how it can camouflage itself because let’s say the predator is coming, it can just camouflage into the color it’s close to. I’d love to change color, it really looks fun because I think it could be useful. I love the way lizards move, even though it’s a little slow,it really seems cool to watch it walk. I’ve seen a lot of lizards when I go on vacation. But not the same type as chameleon.

I also love the eyes. That’s really cool because the eyes are like bursting out. I’m sure they can see very well such as watching closely. It could be really useful for the chameleon to see close so that it can search better for its’ food. I can imagine myself touching the skin of a lizard. It really could feel like rough snake skin. I’ve always wanted to touch a lizard.
